Franks, Jacob
(1688-1769)
   American merchant. He was born in London and settled in New York. In 1712 he married Abigail Bilhah Levy, the daughter of one of New York's richest Jews. He was active in the congregational affairs of Shearith Israel in New York. He served as president of the congregation in 1729, and was a founder of the congregation's Mill Street synagogue.
